I cast on for this last night using the wool I bought to re-make the Square Neck Cardigan. This wool and that pattern were simply not right, but I’m hoping it will be ideal for this old favourite. You can just see it peeping underneath my jacket in this photo from the 1980s (that’s my daughter with me in the photo and she’s about to have her own baby any day now!).

Finished the back last night. Size is good and knitting it is a pleasure. Like the wool, just hope it washes well. Moving on to a sleeve next.

Finished sleeve number 1. I knitted a more fitted sleeve than the pattern gives, because the cardigan is going to be closer-fitting altogether than the original. Now it’s off the needles it looks like it will be a very sweet fit indeed. It looks like I’ll just scrape through without having to buy any extra wool, which is a good thing. I think I’ll knit the other sleeve next, now I’m in the swing of it, then do the fronts.

This is going incredibly well. I have now finished the back, both sleeves and one front. All that’s left is the other front, sewing up, and the tiny amount of neck edging. Wool is holding out well. I can’t wait to get it finished and ready to wear.

I’ve finished knitting the pieces, and I’ve sewn the garment together. Just got the last of the ends to weave in and the buttons to sew on. I’ve tried it on and it seems like it will fit well, although better if I drop a few pounds (isn’t that always the way?!!). Hope for finished pictures soon.

Still 95% of the way there. Everything’s done bar sewing on of buttons, but I’m having a bit of a dither over buttons for this. I have two lots, neither of which are exactly what I want, but either of which would be a perfectly fine compromise.

Finished pictures posted. Quite happy with the results – just need to lose a few pounds.

Well, I’ve worn this a fair amount through the winter and I have to say I’ve remained slightly unhappy with the yarn. I still have issues with how dense the colour is, but more than that I find this yarn snags very easily which I think may be a result of the size of needles I used. Anyway, I’ve knocked a star off my score for the yarn as I think it’s fairly average.
