9 October 2009

Bought yarn for this project at the Knitting & Stitching Show yesterday, half price for a pack of 10 balls. Made a start this evening.

18 October 2009

Finished the back of the jumper today. For some reason the knitting of it isn’t thrilling me. I’m looking forward to the finished garment which I’m sure I’ll wear a lot.

1 November 2009

This sweater had a bit of a slow start but I’ve worked really hard on it this weekend and am getting along well. Unfortunately, I don’t think I’m going to have enough of my main yarn, so I’m going to add some Colinette mohair into the shawl collar.

7 November 2009

Progress is being made on this sweater. The main pieces are finished and tomorrow I’ll be stitching it together so I can make a start on the shawl collar. After completing the body and sleeves I have one and a half balls of yarn left. I am not sure if this will be enough for the collar. Is the collar the same size as a sleeve? Who can tell?!!

25 November 2009

This jumper, after being practically complete, has been frogged. The fit was dreadful, particularly over the shoulders and the sleeves. I have reduced my needle size and started again. I will make some modifications to the sleeves when I get to them. But for now, I get to knit it all over again!

24 December 2009

I took some time away from this, tried a lot of different options, and am now re-knitting/re-writing/re-designing it. I’ve completed the body so far and it fits so I am moving on to the sleeves shortly. This no longer bears much resemblance to the Debbie Bliss pattern, however I am using that as my basis.

27 December 2009

First sleeve completed relatively painlessly – fits well. So one sleeve to go, the neckline to edge, and a scarflette thingy to knit to fill the wide, low neckline for warmth. Really want to get this finished by the end of the year but I’m not sure.

28 December 2009

The jumper is finished, stitched together, tried on, fits. Having edged the neckline with about an inch of double crochet I don’t really think it needs anything more. Tonight I feel a bit ho-hum about it – it’s a nice wearable sweater, but nothing special. I think a lot of that is that I just don’t like heavier yarns on me; a fact which I was fully aware of when I bought this yarn! Tomorrow I will wash the sweater and see what effect that has on the yarn and whether I want to do anything else with this before declaring it complete.

1 May 2010

I’ve worn this jumper a bit but I’m not hugely keen on it. I find the yarn has very little ‘memory’ and the ribbing in particular is baggy. I would like to knit up the original pattern properly but that would depend on sourcing a tweedy yarn more to my liking and in a lighter weight than the Debbie Bliss one.
